By working together to think of a solution that feels good to both people
DVD-specific Discussion Questions:
- How do you think Vesna feels when Amon rushes her and says mean things?
She was hurt by his comments
She felt bad
She started crying because the comments made her sad, embarrassed, and hurt - What are some different ways that Amon can act?
Amon can respect Vesna and wait his turn
He does not have to use a loud, disrespectful voice
He can help Vesna with the rabbit so she is not scared - How do you think Amon feels when he is being pressured to go down the pole?
He is scared
He feels bad - What does Vesna choose to do when she sees Amon is in trouble?
Vesna speaks up for Amon and asks the other boy to stop bothering him
She tells the other boy to respect Amon - Do you think Vesna has high or low self-esteem?
Vesna has high self-esteem because she helps Amon and stands up for what she believes in
Emphasize the message: Even though Amon was mean to Vesna when petting the rabbit, Vesna makes the positive choice to treat him with respect. When we have high self-esteem, we respect ourselves and others. We don’t have to treat others in a mean way just because they did that to us
