Activity Title: Exploration of Kids Help Phone |

Activity Objective: The objective of this activity is to explore the Kids Help Phone website and other resources to help familiarize youth with these useful resources. |
Materials Required:
*Note: facilitators should familiarize themselves with the resources first before this activity |
Task Time: 30-40 minutes |
Activity Description: 1. Explain to students that the Kids Help Phone (KHP) website is a great resource for getting help about a problem or worry from an adult when you are having a difficult time telling an adult around you. It is available 24/7 and offers anonymous bilingual counselling services 2. Explain that KHP is free and youth can access counsellors both over the phone,through an online chat function, or through text. There is also an app that can be downloaded. Aside from counselling, KHP also offers a ton of resources on a variety of topics relevant for youth Because of its name, the facilitator may need to clarify that KHP is not just for “kids”, but offers plenty of resources for all youth 3. Project the website onto a screen and take the students through the different functions. For example, highlight the phone number for counselling (top right hand corner) and the online chat function (blue icon at bottom right hand corner. You can also click on the content button to explore different topics 4. On the homepage, scroll down to the Counsellor Q&A section to explore some real questions asked by youth about some of their problems and worries 5. Activity Extensions: Either after exploring the resources with the whole class or on a different day, give students an opportunity to explore these resources individually during class and allow for a Q&A section regarding any concerns that may come up. |
Additional Comments: The KHP texting function allows KHP to see one’s phone number and will keep a record of the texting transcript.
